My Take:
Great! I quite enjoyed reading this manga. Fortunately, Takaba Akihito was one uke that I easily liked. Even though he acts on what he feels rather than think things through, his character is easily and will be loved by the readers. However, I have to say that there were moments when I got frustrated with his helplessness, but that was easily made up by his (somewhat) strong will and inner strength. What intrigued me in this manga is that there are two semes present in the duration in the story. Although there can only be one "true love," Takaba still submits to another person in one way or another. The semes are both bishies to boot. XD
Yamane-sensei's art on the characters' body is very well-done: the average Japanese "ideal" body is clearly drawn without too much muscles involved, and the body proportions are balanced. Even the bodies where the scenes are sizzling hot are still well-drawn without making the characters' body positioning (no dirty pun intended) look awkward.
I have to be honest, at first glance (and reading the synopsis) I thought that this was going to be your typical poor uke indebted and /or sold off to a yakuza seme. I was surprised how this series turned out. While reading, I was expecting Takaba to be indebted to the yakuzas along the way (which seem to be cliched in most yakuza yaoi mangas *rolls eyes*).
I highly recommend this manga. I was hoping to do a review on Yamane-sensei's Crimson Spell, but it's still far from finished. But if you love Crimson Spell, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy reading this as well. ^.^
